One of the many things we can do to keep your plumbing in great shape is install leak detection systems. As the name suggests, these systems are designed to monitor your plumbing for leaks and alert you when they occur—that way, you can get them repaired before the problem gets worse. In this article, we’ll provide an overview on how leak detection works, so you know what to expect.

How Leak Detection Works

  • Whole-House Leak Detection – The first thing you should know about leak detection systems is that they vary in size. Whole-house leak detection systems, for instance, are designed to monitor all the plumbing in your home. They do this by either using mechanical turbines to measure the volume of water flowing through the pipes or by using ultrasonic waves to do the same thing.
  • Point-of-Use Leak Detection – The other main type of leak detection systems is point-of-use models. Instead of measuring the water flow in your pipes, these devices are equipped with moisture sensors, and they are designed to be placed below sinks. Then, if water leaks from the sink’s plumbing, the moisture will trigger the sensor and alert you that way.
